Shirodhara Massage
Shirodhara comes from two sanskrit words “shiro”(head) and “dhara”(flow). It is a deeply relaxing Ayurvedic therapy where a steady stream of warm, medicated oil or herbal decoction is gently poured onto the forehead, specifically over the “third eye” area. This rhythmic flow calms the nervous system, reduces stress and anxiety, improves sleep, and enhances mental clarity. It is often used for insomnia, headaches, and overall mind-body balance.
This steady stream of liquid, combined with a soothing scalp or body massage, creates a meditative state, balancing the mind, calming the nervous system, and releasing deep-rooted stress. Shirodhara is often recommended for mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall wellness.

How It Works (Process of Shirodhara)
In Shirodhara, a stream of warm, medicated oil or herbal liquid is gently poured onto the forehead in a continuous flow. The therapy is usually done while lying down in a relaxed state, allowing the rhythmic pouring to soothe the mind, calm the nerves, and restore balance.
- Warm, medicated liquid is prepared according to your Ayurvedic body type (dosha) and wellness needs.
- The liquid is poured in a rhythmic, continuous stream over the forehead, stimulating the pituitary gland and balancing the body’s energy flow.
- Often paired with a gentle scalp, head, or body massage to enhance the therapeutic effects.
- The therapy induces a state of deep relaxation, comparable to meditation.
